Shauna Cribbin (b. 1997) is a British Artist based in East London. Navigating social class divisions and consequent systems of taste, Shauna employs the cultural signifiers of material and image to speak of her own identity whilst honouring the women by whom she is influenced. Through a multi-faceted approach to sculpture, collage, print and sound, her work has the surface and screen in continual flux. The pixel is used repeatedly via screen, scan and sculpture - using bitmap and rhinestones in the same way regardless of dimension. Bridging nostalgia with otherworldly aesthetics and futuristic modes of representation, Shauna’s work elaborates on themes of escapism, aspiration and hope for working-class women. Each piece glamorises the mundane and elevates the every day to celebratory heights through her use of mostly found objects - tyres, steel, disco ball motors, magazines and scrap countertops, such material and character choices aim to commemorate the resourcefulness of women working in service of their desires.
